School visit from the High Mistress of St Paul’s Girls’ School and Students

On 16th October, SPGS International School Chengdu gathered in a special assembly to welcome to the High Mistress of St Paul’s Girls’ School: Sarah Fletcher, Chair of the school board: Qin Li, Board Advisors: Chris Davis and Helen Lowe, alongside a group of SPGS London students. Sarah Fletcher congratulated SPGSI Chengdu on its numerous outstanding achievements since its opening. She noted “We are very happy to have shared values and a deep cooperation with SPGSI Chengdu, all of which creates the very best possibilities for our students.”

In the following days, Sarah Fletcher, along with the visiting board members, conducted in-depth discussions with all SPGSI Chengdu staff, focusing on school governance, curriculum development, staff wellbeing and recruitment, and how to further strengthen future collaboration between our two schools.

The Co-Principals led the London delegation on detailed school tours across both Junior School and Senior School, and the visitors had the chance to experience first-hand a broad range of SPGSI Chengdu’s interactive and challenging lessons. They participated in a series of school assemblies and enjoyed the informative presentation and performance from students their current theme: The Egyptians. They also watched a wonderful lion dance exhibition with students from both schools.

We are very happy to have shared values and a deep cooperation with SPGSI Chengdu, all of which creates the very best possibilities for our students.

During their visit, students from SPGS London worked with students form our school, undertaking a range of language, PE, and traditional Chinese handicraft activities. The two schools also joined together to form a choir – singing in both English and Chinese. Building on the numerous online activities we have already held, this is the first in-person exchange between students from both schools, and we look forward to the inaugural visit of SPGSI Chengdu’s students to St Paul’s Girls’ School in November.

Strong parent and school communication has always been at the heart of SPGSI Chengdu. Therefore, Sarah Fletcher and the school governing bord members met with parents face-to-face, enabling parents to gain a deeper understanding of the connection between SPGSI Chengdu and our sister school and to learn more about the plans for future cooperation between the two schools.

At the farewell session, Ms. Sarah Fletcher expressed her gratitude to all the students and staff at SPGSI Chengdu. She recognised the professionalism shown by staff in teaching and caring for students and spoke very highly of our students’ excellent performance: “What has impressed me the most here is the state of happy learning that exists throughout the school and the high quality of the students work. I am also pleasantly surprised by the wonderful English proficiency of these students.” She believes that SPGSI Chengdu is fulfilling its mission successfully and has a strong resonance to SPGS, London. In the future, students from SPGSI Chengdu will achieve the same academic excellence and develop themselves holistically in the same manner as our sister school.

The deep relationship between SPGSI Chengdu and St Paul’s Girls’ School, London has been further extended by this visit from Sarah Fletcher, the School board members, and students from SPGS, London. As we look to the future, our two schools will share even more resources and continue to exchange ideas on core areas, creating a challenging and intellectually stimulating learning environment for our students, and realising our vision of providing an outstanding, holistic education.
