Sixth Form

Sixth Form

Getting into a G5 (the “Golden Triangle,” the top 5 universities in the UK) or Ivy League university is more than a matter of grades, certificates, or qualifications.

Top universities around the world are looking for candidates who show aptitude for their chosen field, the desire to work independently, and the ability to work effectively with others. At SPGSI Chengdu, Sixth Form students are coached and supported to stand out from the crowd. Perseverance, determination, curiosity and creativity, along with a high level of academic English will lead to outstanding scholarly achievement resulting in the best university places being offered.

Our curriculum for the final two years of senior school is taught by subject specialists and gives students opportunities to research and advance with tailored guidance. Focusing on only three or four subjects ensures that students excel in key areas of interest, fostering passion and curiosity. An academic experience delivered purely in English with a focus on academic English and essay writing prepares students for success in any global university of their choosing.

A Levels

Advanced Levels (or A Levels) are UK subject-based qualifications for students who have completed a previous qualification (usually IGCSE), usually those aged 16 and above. Each course lasts two years and involves assessment: coursework, examination, or a combination of the two, and culminating in qualifications which allow for progression into higher education.

Unlike previous stages of education, there are no compulsory A Level subjects. Students are free to choose subjects that interest them or will benefit their academic careers at university and beyond. Subjects include Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English Literature, History, Geography, Psychology, Economics, Art, Computer Science, Design and Technology, Chinese, and other languages.

  • Enrichment Programme

A Level courses are enriched by timetabled sessions developing critical thinking, academic English, and cultural awareness. Added to these are challenging and rewarding extra-curricular programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Extended Project Qualification, and a number of Olympiad competitions. All of these elements throughout the curriculum work together to enhance study skills, and to develop research methods, and independence.

    Student Support

Around each Sixth Form student at SPGSI Chengdu is a team of experts offering support and guidance throughout Years 12 and 13. During the period of development whereby students may be most in need, individualised guidance is provided by experienced staff carefully matched with each student.

Mentors and specialists work closely with students over their 2 years in Sixth Form, guiding and observing to provide tailored feedback: enhancing letters of reference, polishing personal essays, and modelling coaching for interviews.
