Scholarships - SPGS International

Scholarships

St Paul’s Girls’ School in London has long had an outstanding reputation for academic excellence. Ever since its first pupils were educated in 1904, St Paul’s alumnae have changed the world in the fields of politics, law, science, the arts and journalism.

Emulating the success of our sister school, St Paul’s Girls’ School, SPGS International School Chengdu offers an extraordinary education to talented students by providing scholarships up to 100% fee remissions. These scholarships honour the illustrious alumnae and staff of St Paul’s Girls’ School.

Rosalind Franklin Academic Scholarships

Our Academic Scholarship is named after Rosalind Franklin, a pioneer in discovering the structure of DNA. These scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate a level of academic performance far beyond what would be expected at their age and whose performance suggests they have the potential to access leading universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard or Yale.

Assessment for these scholarships depends on the nature of a student’s particular skill but typically a student would initially be identified following their entrance testing. They would then be invited back for an interview and to sit additional subject specific tests to confirm an exceptional level of ability.

Gustav Holst Music Scholarships

Our Music Scholarships are inspired by Gustav Holst, the composer and Musical Director at St Paul’s Girls’ School. Holst is most famous for his composition The Planets, which has been performed by orchestras worldwide for over a century.

Contestants for these music scholarships must prepare a 20-minute recital that is assessed by the school’s music staff. As a guide, senior school students wishing to be considered for such a scholarship should be performing at a level above ABRSM (Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music) Grade 8 or equivalent on their instrument.

Rhoda Dawson Art Scholarships

Our Art Scholarships commemorate Rhoda Dawson, an outstanding painter whose paintings are still exhibited in major galleries and auctioned at Christie’s and Sotheby’s. Students applying for Rhoda Dawson Art Scholarships should submit a portfolio of their work in whatever medium/media they are most comfortable operating in.

Celia Johnson Drama Scholarships

Dame Celia Johnson was a famous actress, who career included stage, television and film. She is known for her roles in such much-loved films as Brief Encounter, for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Applicants for Celia Johnson Drama Scholarships should prepare a 10-minute solo audition piece.

Dance and Sports Scholarships

We also invite young talented athletes to apply to our Sports Scholarships. Applicants are assessed in different ways depending on their chosen sport, backed up with evidence of performing at a high level outside of school, for example in tournaments or having participated in provincial or national competitions.
